It was cool to watch whatever I wanted on telly! But my friend Antoine shared his room with Renaud. They didn’t stop talking, even during the nights when they were supposed to sleep!
In their room there were curtains that were closed whenever a care should be done by nurses and doctors. In my room, there was no curtain and I was alone with mom and dad, who slept with me. However, when school mates came to visit me, I was glad to close the curtains. Medical care isn’t a show!
Your child needs to have his own privacy, most of all when he grows up and is a teenager. His body changes as well as the image he has from himself. At home he can have his own room, arranged according to his tastes and will, have a door to close it whenever he needs a moment by himself… However, he may share his hospital room with one or several children. In this case, think of small arrangements so as to make him feel good and comfortable with the family and when he is by himself.
The contact with his friends and the familiar surroundings before his illness shall be kept. A call to ask friends to pass by and visit at hospital; a call to the godmother so as to be pampered; a call to the girl/boyfriend, etc.
A small curtain, a partition, a piece of tissue or any other idea engaging the child’s privacy…
My room needs to be refreshed now that I am in it every day! I no longer enjoy the poster or the wallpaper, which are so childish. It is the moment to talk to mom and dad.
Some flowers from the home garden, a new lamp giving a new radiance to the room…
Moments of privacy such as a call to friends, mates, girl/boyfriend without brothers and sisters, mom and dad standing beside…
Great, there is mail for me! A need to write, envelopes and funny coloured writing paper that smeel good! This afternoon, I wrote to Gramma and Marie, my girlfriend ... Mommy has promised me to post my mail as soon as she returns from work.
