Service checks

Principle

This system is subsidized by the Federal State and allows any resident of Belgium to pay a special rate for homemaker services. The provided work or services are only for private use.

Which are the provided services?

Home help:

- Cleaning;

- Laundry;

- Ironing;

- Sewing services;

- Preparation of meals.

Services provided outside home:

- Ironing;

- Grocery shopping;

- Transportation of persons with reduced mobility.

How does the system work?

A maximum of 750 service checks (titres-services) can be ordered per year. For single parents, disabled people, parents of disabled children, this maximum is increased to 2000 service checks per year. Self-employed people can receive assistance at childbirth. This assistance (105 service checks) is granted through the social insurance funds.

Service checks in paper: to be dated, signed and submitted to the service provider at the rate of 1 check per hour of work.

Electronic service checks: the service provider enters the number of hours worked for the service recipient through a toll-free number, dialled from a mobile or fixed phone. The information is communicated to the accredited company (Sodexho) and debited from your electronic “wallet”.

Place an order of service checks

At first, you must register at the Sodexho. The registration is free of charge and can be done through Internet at www.titres-services-onem.be or through the completion of a paper form,

downloadable at this website. This form must be sent by fax 02/547 54 96 or by mail to

Sodexo – Service checks unit

Rue Charles Lemaire 1

1160 Brussels

Tel.: 02/547 54 95

During your registration you will be asked whether you prefer paper or electronic service checks. In this case, please check with the agency you will work with, if they accept electronic checks. After your registration, Sodexho confirms it and will indicate how to proceed to place an order of service checks.

Rate and refunding

The amount to be paid is € 7,50 per hour of work. There is a tax deduction for all purchased service checks (maximum of 2.510€ of purchase for the year 2009, tax form of 2010). Since the taxable year of 2009 (income of 2008), the users with a low income can benefit from a tax advantage through a refundable tax credit. More information available at the Federal Public Service for Finances (02/572 57 57).

Home help provided by Aide & Soins à domicile of Brussels

The worker provides home help. He/She ensures the comfort of the house by cleaning it, collecting dust, arranging the room, washing dishes, etc.

The rate is based on the combined net income of the household, without exceeding 6,20€ per hour.

This service provision cannot be tax deduced but it is easier from an administrative point of view as there is no need to place orders for service checks within Sodexho. The payment is done through a monthly bill and the staff is trained and follows trainings regularly.
