The City Serine is a therapeutical accommodation site, halfway between a hospital and a home. The site welcomes patients (adults and children) suffering from serious diseases that require complex technical care and palliative care.

The site is composed of several houses, care rooms and friendly houses adapted to the problem of the supported people.

The team consists of a social assistant in charge of the site, an oncologist, a specialised nurse, a secretary, a housekeeper and family help. The team works with the general doctor of the patient and the hospital team.

This set of care sites is designed to accommodate the sick child and his family in an environment tailored to his needs (medical, psychological and social).

Parents can leave their child with confidence to the team during the day.

Non-profit making organisation  « La Maison de Répit » in the region of Brussels-Capital

The construction of the organisation in Brussels began in May 2009 and it should be able to operate as early as September 2010. It is planned to accommodate children with severe disease for short periods. It has a ‘family size’ and it will propose care, support and healing for the sick child and allow his parents and family to take a break. The care of children will be done with the help of professionals and volunteers. A website has been recently launched and gives a comprehensive information on the project: www.maisonderepit.be (in French and Dutch)
