Recovery centers

Belgian health care insurances often have recovery centres for post-surgeries recovery or chronically ill patients or, they have agreements with centres for convalescent people. Please contact your health care insurance in order to get information on the recovery centres for children and teenagers as not all recovery facilities accept them.

In general, the advisor doctor of the health care insurance will decide whether the patient shall be sent to a recovery centre and whether the insurance will cover the expenses during the patient’s stay.

Some health care insurances also cover public transport expenses to the recovery facility or can help you organise the patient’s transfer from the hospital to the recovery centers.

In most cases, the insured individual can benefit from XXX as long as he has a complementary health care insurance and has awaited six months before being covered by his health care insurance.

Please contact the social service of the hospital before the patient (or you) leaves it so as to request a « recovery request » or contact your health care insurance. In this way, you will be informed about the procedures, the available recovery centres, its features as well as the costs charged to the patient and the accompanying person.
