A Royal Decree of March 19th, 2007 (Moniteur Belge of March 22nd, 2007) has set certain rules for the hospitalization of a child when the parent accompanies him during the stay.
The first consequence of these rules is that, in such cases, the hospital can not charge a supplement for a private room. However, it is allowed to charge the renting of a bed and extra meals or drinks for the accompanying parent.
In terms of fees, the physician may not charge extra fees to the condition that the patient has agreed and reported his personal choice to be in a private room with his child. A separate document is submitted for signature to indicate this choice and the agreement on the payment of extra fees.
Please remind that the admission form already provides the option of being hospitalized and cared by the fees agreed by the doctor-health care insurance. That is to say, without additional fee, whether the doctor charges a fee decided by the State (in this case his rate is called conventionné) or charges a private fee since 01/09/2002. This choice is valid only for a stay in a shared room or with two beds.
If the hospital provides a private room without a signed document, supplements become questionable.
