Neonatology

The Neonatology department specializes on the impact of therapy on the development of a premature baby. The wellbeing of the premature baby and its parents can be improved through special care: kangaroo carrier, massages, soft music…. The neonatal medical team works with the NIDCAP program (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program - www.nidcap.org)

Stay of Parents at the Hospital

A bed, free of charge, is available to any parent who wishes to stay with their child in the hospital.

Bathroom or Shower

There is a shower room in the Unit.

Meals for Parents

Meals in the room can be ordered via the nurse on duty.
A self-service restaurant is open at lunchtime on Level -1

Shop and Facilities

The shop is located in the main hall.
Opening hours: Weekdays from 8.30am to 12.15pm and from 1.15pm to 6.30pm
Weekends from 1pm to 5.30pm
Internet will soon be available in the rooms.
If you run out of clean clothes for your child, you can call the social service who will lend you some clothes.

Specifications of the Paediatric Service

The Unit has around 15 beds.

Attention to the child is very important: preparation for an operation, relaxation, pain control…. For instance, before an operation, the doctor or the nurse will explain the procedure to the child by using a soft toy called “Monkey”. Parents are allowed in the anaesthetic room to reassure their child.

Infrastructure

Playroom, care room and anaesthetic room are all decorated with children’s themes.

Activities in the Unit

In collaboration with the clinic’s school, “Nurse Ludique” organizes activities twice a week: reading books and playing music.

Visits

One parent is allowed 24 hours a day. The other one is allowed all day until 10pm. Relatives (3 people at a time) can visit between 2pm and 8pm.

In the Intensive Care Unit, visits are every day from 1pm to 1.45pm and from 6pm to 6.45pm.

Television

You can get a remote control at Admission service by paying a deposit of €50.

Loan of Books

Choice of books in the room every Tuesday morning.

Fridge and Microwave

Fridge and amicrowave are available for parents. Ask the nurses.

Psychological Support to the Child and its Family

If necessary, a psycholgist can assist the child and its relatives.

The chapel is located in the lower ground level. Mass is celebrated on Sunday and feast days at 10am. During the week, there is a possibility to receive Communion in the room.

Down Payment and rates

A down payment of €40 is required for a planned hospitalization.

The co-payment system is in use in this hospital. The appropriate cost for the patient (hospitalization and additional charges of medical fees) will be sent to the home address about 6 weeks after discharge.

Ask for a certificate of hospitalization at Admission for your Insurance Company.
