The Pinocchio Association

President: Martin Margodt

The Association has two aims :

It tries to heighten public awareness of severely burnt children, their treatments and need for medical and psychological support.

The Association gives practical and financial support to the children. It trains volunteers to keep company to the children when the parents are unable to be at their side.

Spiritual Support (Religious and Secular)

The social team will call the appropriate religious representative or a lay person. The hospital works with people who are used to such difficult circumstances. If the patient or his family would prefer someone they know, that person will be called for support. There is no chapel in the hospital.

School at the Hospital

If the child is hospitalized for several weeks or several months, the psychologist gets in touch with his school’s teacher to carry on his educational program at the hospital, depending on his psychological and medical state.

Special Associations for the education of children in hospitals make sure that the school program is carried on in hospitals. This is supervised by psychologists.

The return to school can be difficult for a child who has been badly burnt. Sometimes, the psychologist will accompany him back to school to explain the situation to the teachers and the students, how it happened, how he was treated…

They also take this opportunity as a preventive lesson to warn the children against dangers which result in severe burn injuries.
