There are other alternatives like e-learning (computer-based learning).
Please consult the French Community website for more information: http://ead.cfwb.be
This learning method is proposed to young students aged less than 18 years-old who are unable to attend school due to an illness, a hospitalisation or a stay abroad.
Experience shows that it is recommended that an adult assists the child so as to help him during the learning process approach and that the student might have already acquired some academic level as well as some maturity and autonomy, at least during the beginning of the e-learning process.
Children having already achieved the primary school cycle are more likely to be able to work alone.
The available classes are maths, French, Dutch and a scientific activity raising awareness in children having achieved the fourth primary years of school.
Like schools in hospitals, this learning method does not organise official exams and do not have the authority to issue diplomas.
The goal is to prepare students to pass the exams in the central school board (jury central) or the tests organised by their regular school. Nevertheless, the subscription in e-learning classes does not exempt the student from the compulsory education.
Regarding the legislation on this subject, please refer to the A.Gt. dated 21-05-1999 (Decision of the government of the French community laying down conditions to fill the compulsory education by the provision of home schooling). Decision of the Government of the French Community
