UZ Brussel stelt dat de IVM bij de moeder heeft geen impact op de gezondheid van het kind. Deze fertiliteitstechniek vormt een alternatief voor de vruchtbaarheidsbehandeling met hormonale stimulatie van de eierstokken. Er treden beduidend minder hormonale bijwerkingen bij op.<\/strong><\/p>\n

BIJ IVM brengt men onrijpe en onbevruchte eicellen in het laboratorium tot rijping. Het Centrum voor Reproductieve Geneeskunde en het Centrum voor Medische Genetica in het UZ Brussel volgden zwangerschappen en kinderen die geboren worden na IVM op. Uit dat onderzoek blijkt dat de fertiliteitstechniek geen impact heeft op het geboortegewicht, het risico op aangeboren afwijkingen of de zwangerschapsduur. De resultaten werden gepubliceerd in het toonaangevende wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Human Reproduction.<\/p>\n

IVM zet dus de stap van experimentele behandeling tot veilige fertiliteitstechniek. De studie is goed nieuws voor vrouwen met het polycysteus ovariumsyndroom (PCOS), die vaak een beroep doen op een vruchtbaarheidsbehandeling. Voor hen blijft een goede voorbereiding en opvolging van de zwangerschap, met aandacht voor voeding en lichaamsbeweging, wel van groot belang. Uit het onderzoek blijkt namelijk ook dat pati\u00ebnten met een uitgesproken vorm van PCOS tijdens de zwangerschap vaker hoge bloeddruk en pre-eclampsie of zwangerschapsvergiftiging ontwikkelden.<\/p>\n
